How
to Improve Patient Safety through Smart Technology
Abstract
Most of the hospitals are working hard to develop smart
healthcare and using a variety of information systems to improve healthcare
quality and patient safety. However, some hospitals notice that it may also
cause patient harm because of IT system errors. It was an underestimated
problem with a lack of discussion. The IT-related patient safety risks will
continue to rise with the growth of HIT application in healthcare industry. Joint
Commission of Taiwan launched a project in 2019 aiming to collect the data
related to patient safety events with IT system errors and finally, there were
139 cases from 11 hospitals. It is hoped to find out the potential issue of IT
systems in each hospital through communication and experience-sharing to clarify
the problems and look for solutions. In this session, we will take a look at common problems of the medical IT system and its impact on patient safety,
bringing you a fresh perspective on the relationship between the IT system and
patient safety.
